Birds Of a Feather was founded in Bozeman, Montana by three brothers—William (15), Henry (13), and John Thomas (9)—with a shared passion for creativity, hard work, and the outdoors. What began as a small idea between brothers quickly grew into a youth-run business built on craftsmanship and respect for natural materials.
The kids behind Birds of a Feather collect bird feathers from shooting and hunting companies across the United States—feathers that would otherwise go to waste—and transform them into handcrafted lapel pins, hat pins, and decorative accessories. Each feather is carefully prepared and finished by hand. Because no two feathers are alike, every piece is completely unique.
Youth entrepreneurship is at the core of the company. Birds Of a Feather is operated by kids and employs friends of similar ages, giving young people real experience in responsibility, production, and running a small business. Every product reflects patience, attention to detail, and pride in doing things the right way.
Based in Bozeman, Birds of a Feather is inspired by the Montana outdoor lifestyle—practical, honest, and connected to the land. The company values sustainability, making use of materials that would otherwise be discarded, and turning them into something meaningful and lasting. Each finished piece tells a story of resourcefulness, individuality, and what young makers can accomplish when given the chance.

With a strong passion for dog training, fishing, hunting, and riding horses, he brings both skill and dedication to his work. Alongside his trusted dog, Missy, William retrieves on shoots to ethically gather the feathers used in the company’s products. He then applies his growing craftsmanship skills to thoughtfully design and create product designs.

Henry is the middle brother and is 12 years old. He has a strong passion for the outdoors—especially dirt bike riding, horses, dogs, hunting, and fishing. Feathers are gathered from shooting companies and hunting operations across the United States—materials that would otherwise go to waste.

Each feather is carefully cleaned, sorted, and hand-selected for its quality, color, and natural character.

The feathers are transformed into lapel pins, hat pins, and decorative pieces using wire, pin backs, and binding materials—one at a time.

Every piece is inspected, packaged, and shipped, ready to be worn and appreciated.
